Good Morning! Today will be great because I have proclaimed it to be! Grateful to GOD for allowing me to wake up this morning with new strength and a fresh mind.
Yesterday, I visited the Walmart Supercenter in the heart of the 9th ward of New Orleans, LA. (I'm not sure if I mentioned, but I am an HBCU Visiting Scholar with Walmart for Essence Festival this year.) We were given a tour by the store manager and some department managers. It was amazing, not only because I learned a lot more about Walmart, but truly because we were able to connect with the people of the area. There's nothing like their culture. As a people, they are so genuine, from their thick accents to the food (pig lips and pig tails were introduced to me yesterday; undecided if I will try either before my trip ends-- will keep you updated lol). I loved hearing them talk about their lives now and Walmart's support of their community. It also was refreshing to see how much they enjoyed their jobs. There are so many stories about unfair treatment of Walmart employees, but even while being transparent, the associates expressed that their 'ups-and-downs' made them a family. Their spirits brightened my day!
Random thought: Ever really see you for who you really are and be surprised by what you're viewing? For instance, you may be put into a sticky situation and do/say everything you just knew you would never - maybe in a good way, but maybe in a bad way. I've been shocking myself lately, and it's honestly in response to being around people more frequently and intimately. I am actually quite introverted, and I really enjoy my time to myself. Lately, Ive been working on a team project at work, I've consistently had a roommate(s), and my alone time has decreased significantly. I have to be creative in finding times to recharge. Also, I've been in awe of some of my behaviors. To be totally transparent, my people skills have lots of opportunities to improve. Though, I'm grateful for the challenge, because I know that I will be a better "me" at the end of the summer for it!
Have a great day, and be kind to yourself ❤️
